Voyager 2 PWS electric field waveform in CDF files

ResourceID
spase://NASA/NumericalData/Voyager2/PWS/Waveform-CDF/PT0.00003472S

Description

The Voyager 2 Plasma Wave Subsystem (PWS) electric field waveform data set contains all available uncalibrated full resolution 4-bit measurements for the entire mission. The PWS waveform receiver samples the voltage on the 10 m electric antennas at the rate of 28800 samples per second through a 40 Hz to 12 kHz bandpass filter, utilizing an automatic gain control. However, gain information is not returned in telemetry so absolute calibration cannot be done directly. The waveform may be used to identify features such as dust impacts in the time domain or a power spectrum may be derived to show relative amplitudes of spectral elements in the frequency domain.

Description

Epoch Time, Spacecraft Event Time at the beginning of a SCLK line of 1600 contiguous 4-bit samples. Samples occur at 28800 per second, but lines occur once every 60 ms, with 128 missing samples between lines. Epoch Time is the number of nanoseconds since the J2000 Epoch, 2000-01-01T11:58:55.816 UTC.

Description

This is the spacecraft clock partition number. The Voyager Flight Data System Counter (FDSC) is the spacecraft clock (SCLK), consisting of a modulo 65536 (16-bit) counter that advances once every 48 minutes, a modulo 60 counter that advances once every 48 seconds, and a line counter that counts from 1 through 800 for each 48 second frame, incrementing every 60 ms. To account for natural rollovers or commanded resets of the FDSC, the partition number indicates the SCLK interval.

Caveats
The FDSC (SCLK) rate varies slightly due primarily to environmental conditions. Cadences given here have some variability and accurate mapping of SCLK to SCET requires a SPICE clock kernel calculation. The SCLK partition cadence is the nominal cycle time of the 16-bit counter advancing once per 48 minutes, or 65536*48 minutes.

Description

This is a text representation of the spacecraft clock (FDSC, SCLK) at the beginning of a contiguous line of 1600 4-bit samples. The format is mmmmm:nn:lll, where mmmmm is the modulo 65536 counter that advances (nominally) once every 48 minutes, nn is the modulo 60 counter that advances once every 48 seconds, and lll is the line counter that cycles from 1 through 800, advancing every 60 ms.

Description

A contiguous set of 1600 uncalibrated 4-bit samples converted to signed bytes (raw * 2 - 15) so they range from -15 to +15 and are proportional to voltage at the antenna inputs. An automatic gain control is employed, but the gain value is not known, so direct calibration is not possible.
