The NOAA GOES satellites include two sensors: an Energetic Particle Sensor (EPS), and a Magnetometer, MAG. The satellites are in geostationary orbit. For older satellites, the orbital inclination may be up to 15°. Data sometimes contains errors, especially GOES 6 EPS and possibly both of the GOES 6 and GOES 7 magnetometers. The EPS data are 5 min averages, the MAG data are 1 min averages. The NOAA Space Environment Lab, SEL, Space Environmental Services Center (SESC), uses this data in real-time for forecasting and monitoring. Reference: GOES Spacecraft Operations Manual, Volume I, May 1980, Hughes Reference Number D5150 SCG 00169R GOES 8, with three Electron Sensors should launch in early 1993. The IE variables will be defined post-launch.
