USO is situated at an elevation of 750 m in a semi-arid highland
region of western India, midway between Delhi and Bombay. USO is administered
by the Physical Research Laboratory, headquartered in Ahmedabad. The main objective
of obtaining the high spatial and temporal resolution observations of solar
photospheric and chromospheric activity is to understand the various dynamic
phenomena occurring on the surface of the Sun.
