The northern auroral electrojet (NAE) index instrument is a virtual instrument representing the collection of ground magnetometer arrays used to derive a southern auroral electrojet index in the northern auroral region at 60 s resolution. The NAE observatory consists of ground magnetometers from the GIME, THEMIS GBO, INTERMAGNET, DTU, University of Iceland, and NIPR ground magnetometer data. The contributing magnetometers may vary from day to day. As result, the NAE index instrument is used as a proxy for the set of possible contributing ground magnetometers.
